All visitors require a passport valid for at least 6 months from their date of entry.

All foreigners from Non-Commonwealth Countries are required to have a valid visa unless their countries have a visa abolition agreement with Tanzania.

Citizens of Commonwealth countries are not required to obtain a visa, unless they are citizens of the United Kingdom, Canada, Nigeria, India, Pakistan or The Republic of South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. However, the list may change from time to time.

Visas can be obtained at Tanzania Embassies or High Commissions abroad, or at the entry point on arrival.

The visa requirements, periods of stay granted and costs vary, depending on your nationality.

US passport holders can opt for a 90-day single entry visa for $50. Or pay $100 for a one-year multiple entry visa (although can only remain in the country for 90 days in one stretch). You can leave Tanzania to re-set your visa by any means you like before the 90 days is up and then re-enter using your multi-entry visa.

Be aware that Immigration officials in commercial ports are not familiar with handling foreign yachts and may not fully understand the Immigration rules that apply to yacht crew.

A full list of immigration requirements can be found at www.foreign.go.tz (this site is often very slow or unreachable). The necessary forms can be downloaded from www.immigration.go.tz/index.php/en/download/forms
