Port Moresby - Communications
Telephone
International Dialing code for Papua New Guinea is +675.
The two main mobile networks operating in Papua New Guinea are Digicel and Bmobile/Vodafone. Coverage is good in major urban areas but limited on smaller remote islands.
Sim cards for telephone use or data use/internet access can easily be bought in main towns. If coverage is important to you, it is best to buy sim cards from both providers. They are both expensive and often service is down.
Mobiles
Phone credit cards and internet wireless cards (Daltron/Datec) available at reception.
Goods can be shipped in via DHL or Fedex duty-free. Label packages “Ship in Port”: as they do not understand “Yacht in Transit”.
Internet
Free WiFi available at the Yacht Club. Ask at front desk for password.
There is a good high-speed Internet Cafe upstairs at the Steamships Mall, which is only 15K/hour and no MB limit.

Cleared in and out of Port Moresby with no issues. Only charge was 55 kina($20) to quarantine. They even cleared in on a Sunday and out on a holiday Monday. RPYC no longer has moorings.
They have added more slips, total of 256, many are empty and available. Area surrounding is safe in daytime. Grocery stores on each side, one on left is a little cheaper but one on right is in a mall with an alcohol store.
RPYC offers free Wi-Fi in the club just ask for passwords at the front desk. We toured many areas within a couple hours of Port Moresby and were never frightened. People were very kind and friendly.
Vodaphone and digital are both available at the mall to the right, 3-minute walk, they seem to be expensive and often the systems are down.
(160 kina $70 for 5 GB) Man name Brian is the club welcome person and very knowledgeable. Has lived here for 60 yrs. he can help with almost any query.
The Royal Papua Yacht Club is now on email admin@rpyc.com.pg. If you want to inquire about a berth when visiting, email marina_admin@rpyc.com.pg
Channel 84 is served by a repeater located on the TV tower behind the Club, about 300 meters above sea level so VHF coverage is very good.
The marina is at 9°27.934’S, 147°9.099’E. If you are unfamiliar with the entrance, the best line to take for entry to the marina is to aim for the marina entrance with the South Motu Reef marker astern (it is at 9°28.574’S, 147°8.557’E).
Leaving plenty of room for Motu Reef of course! Some charts show significant patches of reef which are not as prevalent on this line. Boats over 3m draught should consult the marina office and seek to enter to high tide.
