I have spent winter 2018/2019 in Porto Montenegro with about 30% of my time on the boat and the rest back at home. The marina is lovely, very clean with efficient staff who will always help. The restaurants and super markets are good. Car hire is cheap in the winter, about €50 a week and well worth it. The best chandler is out of town ‘Una Montenegro (Marine Center)’. A takeaway noddle bar ‘Ukemochi Noodle Bar’ is available in the marina and also a takeaway pizza shop in Tivat ‘Contact Fast Food’ within walking distance.

The shipyard ‘Marina Bonici’ has two cranes a 50 ton and a 200 ton. The water in the big pool is about 3.6m deep and the pool is about 7m wide. They have a good supply of anodes and can carry out most work.

Be aware that bring boat parts in your suitcase can cause issues. The total value limit is €430 anymore and you have to pay import tax on them. Make sure you have invoices available to prove they are worth less than €430. Also don’t expect a receipt for your import tax.

Having parcels shipped VAT free to your boat from outside Montenegro is efficient in the marina. You have to pay €170 import duty as a flat fee. You have to be available when the parcel arrives to collect it from the customs office and stamp about 7 sheets of paper with your boat stamp.

Be careful with the workmen you select. Many “helpful hands” are hanging around, some more helpful than others. Do your homework and try to go direct for services rather than having someone else organise it for you. “Yacht & Home” are good for fabric works. “Lighthouse Solution” for joinery works, they have CNC machines and can make anything.

Definitely consider staying at Porto Montenegro and checking into the country there. Agent assistance for clearance is included with moorage. The rate is cheaper if prior to May 1. Marina provided detailed arrival instructions and made everything seamless. On arrival (Late Friday afternoon) we also experienced engine troubles. The Marina GM arranged for a diesel mechanic who was on our boat 15 minutes later. Excellent service considering the marina caters to mega yachts.

LPG Refills in Tivat, Near Porto Montenegro—
We were able to refill a US type LPG bottle and an EU (Blue) bottle at an LPG/Diesel/Petrol filling station on the road between Porto Montenegro and the Tivat airport.

We went by dinghy to the Navar Marina at 42 25.142 18 42.496. We asked the marina personnel to call at Taxi to take us to the LPG filling station. The cab took us out of the marina and turned right on the main road to the airport. We travelled about 500 meters to a diesel/petrol/LPG filling station on the right side. Cab fare 1.40 euro. While we waited a few minutes, they filled 1 each 10# US aluminium bottle and 1 each EU blue bottle for 11 euro total. Taxi back to the marina 1.40 euro.
