See Mexico Clearance page for full details.

Yachts can anchor off and dinghies can be left at one of the yacht agencies on the shore. The Immigration and Port Captain offices are farther up the harbour, just past the cruise ship terminal.

The Port Captain charges an anchorage fee and may also insist on clearance being done through one of the marinas. Both the new marinas offer a port clearance service.

Boats on short stays can clear in and out at the same time.

Obtaining a Temporary Import Permit here, if this is your first Mexican port, is reported to be straightforward.

    Data Entry1 says:

It is best to enter the channel leading to the marinas at high tide, and slack tide as currents can be very strong- up to 4 kts. Even at high tide we saw down to 13′ over the bar. Easiest fuel dock to access is El Cid, but beware of currents. Marina Mazatlan is in good condition, though some security gates don’t work. Showers are good and there are plenty of restaurants in the area. Air-conditioned buses are 10 pesos into the city- look for “Sabalo Centro”
