The Lumut International Yacht Club (LIYC) closed for business at the end of February 2016.  Yachts can still anchor off the marina (Location 04° 14.2’N, 100° 38.4’E), however, no facilities are available.

The Pangkor Marina near Lumut, which opened in 2011, is now the only option for marina berthing here. It comes highly recommended by cruisers and is a good place to get work done.

Take care in the approach as shoals surround the entrance. It is recommended to let the marina know ahead of time when you plan to arrive and update them by radio on VHF Ch.69 (which they actively monitor) as you approach. They have 24-hr security, but it’s safer to arrive during daylight when the tide is not low. The dock staff will typically escort you into the marina or anchorage area (away from the ferries’ path) if you give them notice. Space inside the marina is tight, so be prepared.

See this cruiser’s report about the marina and boatyard which has a lot of very useful information.

There is a night market just a short walk from the Marina on Friday nights. Walk over the causeway from the marina’s artificial island to the mainland, turn right and it’s a 20-minute walk.

The moorings further upriver previously run by Mr Chan and Mr Zainal (at Kampung Baharu) no longer exist.

Pangkor Marina, Marina Island, Lumut – Boatyard Feedback

Just spent 4 months getting the boat painted inside & out. Their sealift is good for catamarans & monohulls.

The work was done by Prestige Marine services, otherwise known as Jimmy. Good job all around & very happy with end result at a fair price.
    Phone: +60 019 5741 398

The marina staff couldn’t do enough to help Jimmy and us.

Entry ferries run regularly & they draw 2.2m & run at all tides, so wait at the start of the entrance then follow them in.

Accommodation – super clean in Lumut. 1 bedroom studio rm850 a month + electricity at rm400 a month – then you need a car to get around.

Biminis as well, but make sure he knows the standard you require. Best give him the old one to copy the method of construction. Specify Tenara thread (15yrs), if not you get 2-5yrs.

A good place to work on or store your vessel
