We first went to Porto Nuovo for a berth, which we arranged through Madiarosa Autuori at the phone number above. We were going to stay a week but decided to leave after one night. Simple reason – there are no toilets and no showers. The office staff said we could use the toilets in the ferry terminal next door, but this arrangement seemed dodgy.

There were no showers of any type. We moved to Mirana D’Arechi and were directed to a floating pontoon for berthing (in the midst of charter yachts). Very nice marina, but expensive. The Metro station is about a 20-minute walk away, and the train runs every half hour. The cost to get to the Salerno main train station is one euro per person, each way. Once we discovered the Metro we didn’t bother with the bus.

Marina d’Arechi. May 17. Three-year-old marina with plans for expansion, and prices to match those plans. Well, run, helpful friendly staff and secure. There are no pontoon gates but the entire marina is behind locked gates and fences. As stated by svbebe the visitor’s Berths appear to be on the inner jetty which is about 2 metres high, stern to laid moozing, a passarelle or gangway is essential. There are many vacant pontoons in the western end of the marina which are not fully in service. Salerno Porto Tourist is more central but for leaving a boat to return home briefly Arechi is ideal. Ten-minute walk to the station, 20 minutes to the chandlers and supermarket.

We berthed one night at Marina D’Arechi. They placed us in an uncompleted area of the marina (it is still under construction) med-moored against a concrete dock that was about 2.0 meters high. It was very difficult to get on and off. They charged us the full price as though we were in the completed floating dock area. We found no information here or elsewhere on how to contact anyone at Porto Nuovo and Porto Turistico will not take boats over 15 meters. We took a taxi to Porto Nuovo and made arrangements for a berth. Taxi fare round trip was 47 euros. A 16 meter berth at Porto Nuovo in high season is 80 euro inc VAT, electricity and water…Marina D’Arechi is 120 euro plus VAT, plus electricity and water…AND it is remote!

There are 8 ormeggio concessions within Porto Nuovo. There are no contact phone numbers published in the sailing guide books for the various ormeggio concessions, nor here at Noonsite. I walked around talking to anyone found on the main dock and soon found a guy who called a woman who spoke English. She said their dock could accommodate our 16-meter sailboat and gave us a discount on a week’s stay.

If anyone is coming here, you can call Madiarosa Autuori at +39 339 843 2719 and arrange berthing. If one speaks Italian, you can hail VHF channel 8 for Ormeggio Autuori and request berthing.
