St George’s - Docking
Anchorages:
The Carenage or north basin is available as an anchorage for commercial vessels with depths from 9.1 to 20.1 metres. The Lagoon or south basin has depths from 4.9 to 8.2 metres and contains a yacht marina on its west side. The entrance channel from the Carenage to the Lagoon has a depth of 3.4 metres.
There are two areas for anchoring in the St George’s area: outside along the cliffs at Martins Bay and inside the Lagoon. The northern bay, the Carenage, is not available for non-commercial vessels.
The anchoring space inside the Lagoon is shrinking and the remaining “free anchoring” space in the northeast sector is crammed with local derelicts and other boats. There is room for a very few boats to anchor along – what would be considered – the entrance channel, between Port Louis and the Grenada Yacht Club, but space is very restricted.
When entering the Port Louis area of the Lagoon, watch out for the large yellow buoys paralleling the long floating pier for use by large “Med-Moor” yachts. Navigating around and in between these buoys is difficult.
Prohibited Anchoring:
Anchoring is prohibited within 200 metres of any beach without written permission.
It is prohibited to anchor in the Grand Anse Bay south of 12′ 02.05′ north latitude. Anchoring north of St. George’s harbour entrance leading lights is also prohibited. Vessels anchoring off the Ross point area must display the appropriate lights after sunset.
Moorings:
The mooring field at Pandy Beach, within the Grande Anse Marine Protected Area (GAMPA), is now operational. Cost is US$10 per night, payable to Gren-Moor Ltd. who operate the mooring field. No anchoring is permitted within GAMPA except for mega-yachts within a dedicated anchoring zone. Failure to comply with anchoring regulations may result in a fine or imprisonment.
Marinas:
The Port Louis Marina, run by Camper & Nicholson, is a pleasant marina with very good facilities. Sunsail and Moorings have their charter boats here and the dock staff are very helpful. Berthing is on finger pontoons.
Security:
Dinghy and outboard thefts continue to be reported.
Outside the lagoon, a number of thefts have been reported from yachts at anchor (both locked and unlocked) in the past. It is recommended if anchoring here to leave someone on board when leaving the boat.
Two dinghy owners reported in August 2019 that their fuel had been siphoned at the Foodland dock.
A yacht at a private dock in the inner lagoon was boarded at night in August 2019 and the owner held at knifepoint while the yacht was burgled. See Related Reports for more details.

Port Louis Marina was an excellent stop for us after weeks of anchoring. Expensive though. and yes the staff were beyond helpful when docking and leaving. No internet at the boat which was too bad.
Port Louis Marina Grenada:
We enquired by email about a berth at this marina and received a reply to say all was ok for a 7-night stay. When we arrived they knew nothing about the email and confirmation that we could stay for 7 days.
Anyway, all is well and they helped with our lines. We had a finger pontoon berth – a bit narrow and they asked us to reverse the boat in (not sure why it was necessary to go in stern-to as it was a finger pontoon?).
In the UK, if we are going into a berth they will just say – starboard or port-side-to, they complicated it by telling me to put lines on the starboard side stern and one on the bow and put lines on the midships – and fenders to the waterline on the starboard side.
I think they were trying to be helpful. I guess they get a lot of people who don’t know how to moor a boat.
Sunsail and Moorings have their charter boats here.
You can get a 10% discount if you are members of the Seven Seas Cruising Association, although the marina staff don’t know this so it took a week to get our discount. You have to pay for water and electricity, a deposit for the hard-wired internet connection, but it’s very fast.
A lovely marina, good “hotel standard” showers and toilets. I had a massage and my hair cut at the spa! Laundry service inexpensive. They even have recycling, although it doesn’t seem to get used properly, which is a shame.
Service at the Victory Bar during the day is good but the restaurant staff are very very slow.
Post office across the water near to the Yacht Club. Good supermarket with dinghy park outside. Very helpful in the chandlery.
Port Louis Marina is cero recommendable, people are gently And good workers. There is, for me, One of the best places to way in Grenada, the Victory bar
There is currently no Liferaft servicing on Grenada, closest is Trinidad or St Lucia per phone call to Island Waterworld 27 Nov 2014
