Mt Hartman Bay - Docking

There are two entrances through the reefs, one is well buoyed and easy, the other is difficult and should not be attempted unless you have done it before. Not recommended to try to enter this bay at night.

Once inside the harbor, you have the choice of anchoring or docking at the marina.

Docking at the marina can expose you to very strong gusts that sometimes come over the surrounding hills. In addition, the marina is exposed to an uncomfortable light cross-chop that finds its way in from the sea.

There is a cruisers net at 7:30 AM six days a week on international channel 66, most cruisers monitor 68. The marina provides a free bus 2 days a week to Island Water World and shopping buses also run several days a week for EC$15 to EC$25. A number of other activities are on offer, including yoga.

There is a pleasant, quiet, and protected anchorage at the northeast arm of the bay, near the mangroves. Although usually uncrowded, this situation can change during the hurricane season when may boat move south.

Note: All the moorings in this bay are privately owned.

Security Note:

Dinghy and outboard thefts continue to be reported in this bay, both locked and unlocked, from the back/side of vessels at anchor and from the marina dinghy dock.

Two women walking in the Dove Sanctuary were robbed of a handbag by a man wielding a machete in June 2018. This path is used often by cruisers and was the site of an attempted sexual assault in 2015.

Be careful if leaving your yacht unoccupied as in 2016 a total of eight boats, whose owners were absent, were broken into and valuable items were taken.

See Piracy & Security reports.

We spent a month in Secret Harbor on the dock doing some solar install and other fittings. Wonderful pool, sand volleyball and tennis courts, laundry 7 days a week. Only 2 showers for each sex at the dock, but 3 more near the pool. Dock has water, gas and diesel. 12-minute walk over hill to Prickly Bay Marina where there are customs, immigration and additional events most nights.

Secret Harbor has good pizza and burger though a bit pricey. Some of our picks for services:
