Anchoring:

Visiting yachts can either anchor off the big oil tanks next to the harbour and go inside the harbour by dinghy for clearance, or proceed to the government wharf or commercial dock and tie alongside.

Half Dike:  The anchorage is by the new public pier.  Shelter is usually adequate.  Water is available from a standpipe by the pier gate.

Lamin Lodge:
Position – 13° 23′ 35″ N, 16° 17′ 31″ W

Lamin Lodge is a great place to go to after clearance (5 miles up-river) and get organised before moving inland. Local guides are reported to be very helpful in providing fresh bread, water, provisioning, hull cleaning and other services.  Senna Tournay  ( +220 756 7907) is recommended as providing great value for money.

The tidal stream in the mangroves provides excellent anchorage at 4m depth. Entrance into the mangroves is straightforward. At low tide some areas are shallow, however, it is always a navigable passage. It is a very sheltered spot in the mangroves with a dinghy dock. It’s a bit of a walk to the main road, but then catching a bush taxi to do the shopping is no problem.

Taking up (for a fee) of an offer to show you around is worth doing, as it is a difficult place to find your way about on a first visit. There are usually a group of men outside the lodge keen to help.  Cruiser recommendations include Edi Jammeh (phone +2207217121, also on Whatsapp and Facebook) and Malang (+220 314 2547).

The Lodge is situated near Lamin Village. It is a 20 minutes walk through the village to the paved road, Birkama Highway, where the local buses run to Westfield in Serekunda and where the nearest supermarket is situated, a distance of around 10 km.
