Maupiti - Docking
Entering the Pass
The pass into the lagoon at Maupiti is well marked with 2 bearing ranges and several lateral markers. The best time to enter the pass is at midday as the continual
outgoing tidal current is at its lowest.
A word of caution – do not enter if the swell is higher than 5 ft or if there are strong winds from the S-SE, as the waves will make the pass too dangerous to negotiate.
Follow the green and red markers all the way to the town of Vai’ea.
Mooring
There are six mooring balls at Pte Tamaupiti (just west of the pass) and 3 more in town. The town anchorage has good holding in sand (10-30ft) and is well protected.
There is a sturdy dinghy dock here, but watch the coral heads on the way ashore. Free drinking water is available nearby, and there are a few small grocery stores in the area, a bakery and post office.
A public dock is available for loading/unloading, but check the schedule of local freighters first.
