Stanley (Falkland Islands) - Docking
Anchoring
The preferred anchorage is off the Public Jetty in three to five meters with good holding in soft mud. Dinghies can be landed on the small pontoon between the Public and East jettys.
In strong westerly winds, a quieter anchorage can be found at Moody Brook.
In strong E or NE winds Whalebone Cove, which is at the east end of the harbour, offers a safe anchorage in the lee of the wreck there.
In strong northerly winds anchor along the north shore of the harbour.
Anchor in six – nine meters of water to the West of Navy Point. Vessels should anchor clear of the line of the Leading Lights on the South side of Stanley Harbour.
NO vessels shall anchor to the east of Navy Point without permission from the Harbour Authorities.
There are swinging moorings suitable for yachts and also a possible berth at the new floating pontoon.
Port William
Port William offers a sheltered anchorage in westerly gales. Avoid restricting the fairway along the centre of the sound and do not anchor close to the line of the Leading Lights through the Narrows into Stanley Harbour.
Falklands Interim Port and Storage System (FIFASS)
This is a substantial floating dock system 2NMs east of Stanley. Yachts can moor on the east side. Diesel and water are available. However, it is an uncomfortable, dirty and noisy berth.
Public Jetty
There is a pontoon for use by yachts on the east side of the concrete pier, which is used by the visiting cruise ship tenders and when they use the pontoon you may have to leave it. This pontoon is considered the best place in Stanley to lie alongside except in strong NE winds. Water is available
