Dubrovnik - Docking

Anchoring:

Once formalities are completed in Gruz, a nice place to anchor is outside the walled city, just a short hop around the bay from Gruz. Sometimes boats are asked for an anchoring fee here (4 euro/meter), however, others have reported not having to pay anything.

Note: It is not permitted to land on Lokrum Island before 09:15. Nor is it permitted to fasten mooring warps to the island. It is also not permitted to enter the old walled harbor with your yacht.

Another option is to anchor in one of the bays North of Dubrovnik, e.g. Slano, Brsecine or Zaton. There is a coast road that runs along the shore and it’s easy to catch a bus into town. Alternatively anchor at Sipan or Kolocep and catch a ferry into Dubrovnik.

Many anchorages in this area have average holding with long, thick weed. The wind off the mountains can change quickly and accelerate during the night.

Town Quay:

There is a section of the commercial quay, beyond the ferry berth, reserved for yachts (approx. space for 20) and is designated a ‘marina’ so charged accordingly. Water and electricity are available. The advantage is that it is close to the town, but it’s a public dock facing a busy road so there is plenty of noise, dirt and tourists.

Marinas:

Marina Frapa is located in Gruz Bay, opposite the ferry port and close to the old town (approx. 1.5km).  Unfortunately all berths are affected by wash from passing boats.

Dubrovnik Marina is located in the Rijeka Dubrovacka near Komolac about 2 Nm from the entrance to Gruž and a 15 minute bus ride to the old town. Call the marina in advance (VHF channel 17), or wait at the entrance to be allocated a berth. Good shelter.

Note: The bus from Cavtat to Dubrovnik takes 35 minutes. The bus from Zaton takes 20 minutes.

The ACI Marina Dubrovnik is a Charter base first and foremost and is eyewateringly expensive. It is manic at the weekend obviously. However; you can anchor in the river outside the marina for free and run in to the marina in your tender for the facilities, restaurants, supermarket, chandler, laundry. Fuel is available, but water is not so easy. Good place to leave the boat for a trip into Dubrovnik Town.

Great group of guys in the customs and port office. .we were met at the quay and helped moor up. Then everything was explained to us . Had to go to only 3 offices and only a crew list had to be written to go along with our normal paperwork. Cash only remember. Can be got out of hole in wall across the road. New marina still not up and running due to paperwork. Dubrovnic marina very nice but a bit expensive for this time of year. Bus into old town at front of marina..good previsioning 10 minuites by bus. Just after big bridge by custom pontoon.

If you are heading to old town Dubrovnik and want to spend the night out at anchor in the harbor just out of the old walls, you will be asked for a 4Euros per meter fee by the Port Authority dinghy coming to collect the fee in the morning.

Also be aware that the Island of Lokrum, right in front of the old town, is a UNESCO site and unfriendly rangers will not allow you on the island before 0915 am. Besides that also note that if you are using the Imray Pilot Book by Trevor and Dyna Thompson you will be misled: the book states that u can anchor with a line ashore in Uvala Port, but this is false as a ranger will come by and force you to release the line.
Actually anywhere on Lokrum lines ashore are not allowed.

Dubrovik-Gruz has also a marina located on the opposite (W) side of the bay from the ferry peer. Marina is currently operated by JK Orsan (Orsan Yacht Club). I do not recommend this place, however. Yachts sailing under flags other than Croatian, especially with full crew are perceived as ‘black charter’ by conservative staff and not welcome friendly. The full story can be read in movie description. I suggest caution.
