Barranquilla - Docking
Anchoring in the river is not an option here due to the fierce current together with the logs, half trees and all kinds of jungle matter which flows along with it.

Puerto Velero outside of Barranquilla
I have now been at this new marina for 3 months and find it nice. It is about 25 minutes from Barranquilla
The area is clean, new and growing. You can swim off your boat and many days can see the bottom. The anchorage is large if you do not want to stay in the marina. There is a new green buoy at the entrance now.
There are two nice (expensive) restaurants and many beach restaurants where a good meal and beer can be had for about $5 or 6 USD, not bad.
The ride to town involves a moto $1.60 or $3,000 local, then a bus ride for another $1.60 or $3,000. It lets you out right at a large well-stocked supermarket at the north end of town which is the nicer area of the city.
Great marina great people and way cleaner and more affordable than Cartagena or Santa Maria.
