The entrance is well-buoyed and lit and provides an all-weather harbour,

Visiting boats are permitted to anchor in the lagoon at the western end of the harbour. The shelter is excellent and the holding good in a mud bottom.

There are several marinas here.

Redcliffe/Scarborough to Mooloolaba – beware of sandbar entering Mooloolaba because it does move and has to be dredged – check VMR/VCP on current condition.

Mooloolaba to Wide Bay Bar – check Tin Can Bay VMR for bar conditions and the latest GSP waypoints.

The latest information on the river bar at Mooloolaba can be found at the Brisbane Pilotage local notice to mariners page.

Maritime Safety Queensland has issued a warning to yachts entering and leaving Mooloolaba that there has been severe silting on the eastern (Port Cartwright) side of the river. According to an article in the Sunshine Coast Daily, there is less than 0.3 metres of water at the eastern side of the breakwater at low tide. As of November 2017, new dredging operations have begun.
