Tobago, Store Bay: Unsavoury Individual – February 2013
Published 9 years ago, updated 6 years ago
I have sailed to Tobago on and off for the last couple of years and although generally, I have a trouble free stay on the island. I would just like to draw my fellow cruisers attention to one unsavoury individual who does hang around the Store Bay anchorage (on the park bench next to Bago’s Beach Bar). He goes by several different names – Allergy, Ron, Excel. Toyha or Michael (it seems to change every time I visit the island!). He approached me offering me drugs (starting with cannabis and progressing to cocaine) and tried to rent me a wreck of an uninsured car for double the standard rate. I have also heard from other cruisers on the anchorage that he has taken them on island tours, which are conducted in the same uninsured wreck whilst he is smoking a “herbal cigarette”. A pest more than a danger I would remind cruisers that there are reasons why you do not do business with people whose office is a park bench when at home, and these reasons apply when cruising in the Caribbean.
Thanks

I know Michael from visiting Store Bay for 3 years now – and he never been anything but friendly and extremely helpful.
