Off the coast of Cuba at 10 am in the morning several weeks ago, we saw what we thought was a whale. Then we thought it was a big log as it had a brown appearance, then we thought it was seaweed floating.
When we got close we found it was moving at around 3 knots heading 070 degrees, 8 miles from the Cabo San Antonio lighthouse, Cuba. It was a homemade submarine (I presume to move drugs from Mexico or Colombia to the USA).
It was very low in the water and we passed within 100 yards of it. I am not sure if it was metal or fibreglass. It would have been a disaster to hit one of those. Both of us would have sunk I am sure.
So warn noonsite readers that these submarines are for real.
I have seen several captured drug submarines at the Coast Guard base in Cartagena, Colombia.
