Editor’s Note:

Petit Port a Piment (19.36N 072 59W) is located on the south side of the Northern Peninsula of Haiti -close to the city of Gonaives where there are great poverty and crime. Friends of the victims have informed noonsite that they stopped off here on the route for Ile a Vache after a difficult crossing from Cuba, needing some rest. The husband is 70 and his wife in her 60’s.

If planning on visiting other Haiti ports and anchorages to the recommended safe anchorage of Ile a Vache, it is advisable to consult Frank Virgintino’s free Cruising Guide to Haiti which details the areas that have been identified and safe and will help you avoid bad areas and unexplored areas.

Our thanks to Kris of SV Taipan who was the Net Controller that first received the report of this incident and Henk for the location map of the attack.
