Pago Pago - General Info
Description:
Pago Pago is a popular long term port for liveaboards who report it is safe from hurricanes because of the high mountains around the harbor and therefore there’s no need to undertake the rough passage to and from New Zealand for the season.
The only real drawback is the smell from the cannery and poor holding in the anchorage (due to a sea floor littered with lots of debris).
Entrance Notes and Cautions:
Holding in the anchorage is poor, so make sure your anchor/s are well set. The anchorage also suffers from strong gusts of wind. It rains frequently here.
